Parachute is an American pop-rock band from Charlottesville, Virginia, United States. Formed in 2006, they released their major-label debut album, Losing Sleep, in 2009, followed by their second album, The Way It Was, in 2011 and their third album, Overnight, in 2013. Vanguard Records released the band's fourth album, Wide Awake, on March 11, 2016. In spite of some solid playing and a big production budget, Parachute's music continues to feel overly familiar in a way that is pleasant but generally innocuous. Wide Awake is certainly not a bad album, but in lieu of any real risk-taking it's hard to feel its sincerity.

Parachute are back with their highly anticipated 4th studio album Wide Awake which was released on 11th Match 2016.

Parachute are a band that formed in 2006 and were originally called Sparks flaw before deciding that Parachute was a better name. Formed in Charlottesville, Virginia of friends Will Anderson, Kit French, Johnny Stubblefield, Alex Hargrave and Nate McFarland.

Since being a support act for Kelly Clarkson during her late 2009/Early 2010 tour they have released 2 other albums prior to the new release. Each time they’ve released a new album they’ve definitely stepped it up a notch.

The 4th album comes almost 2 years since their last album Overnight. This album is packed with pop rock infusion.

Each track has a defining tune and can hold itself up on the album and that’s due to each song telling a different story.

Without You is the first track on the album and was the second song that fans got to hear off the album. Without You tells the tale of a guy wanting to find his perfect someone but is waiting in the hopes that they’ll turn up and that in a literal sense they won’t be able to be without them.

What Side Of Love is the third song that was released for fans to hear off the album. This song is about a guy who is desperately in love with a girl possibly his best friend and he can’t bear the fact that she’s chosen a guy who’s so wrong for her instead of him. He’s basically saying you have to choose: him or me.

Jennie is about being in a relationship with this girl and that he’s reflecting on the time that they spent together and he finally realised that he lost the best thing that’s ever happened to him. He also realises that the potential opportunity for them to get back together has passed.

Everything is a beautiful ballad about a guy confessing his love for his significant other and the piano mixed in with the strings creates a beautiful soothing melody. The guy is confessing that no one else is as important to him as his partner. the song is a reflection of their relationship and the guy can’t believe how lucky he is to have this girl.

Lonely With Me is an upbeat song and I think one of the best songs on the album. Its message is similar to Everything but the guy is still in the friendzone and would do anything in his power to make sure that his friend is happy and is hoping that their friendship will develop into something more. He is also reassuring her that he will do anything to protect her.

Love Me Anyway tells the tale of a couple in which no matter what the man can do no wrong because despite his flaws an misjudgements she loves him anyways. It also tells the tale of hiding parts of yourself back so that you don’t get hurt but it doesn’t matter because she loves every version of him quirks and flaws included.

Parachute have a knack of naming their songs after states in America having previously done it on their second album The Way It Was and New Orleans is no different. New Orleans seems to tell the tale of a Summer adventure that a couple have embarked on and New Orleans is the place where she feels like she has been reborn and that New Orleans is the place where she comes alive.

When You Move is a reminiscent memory and looking back on one of the best times of their lives. It’s an adult looking back on a Summer he had as a teen and having that real feeling of being in love and never wanting to ever let that go. When You Move perfectly encapsulates that message and that the guy thought that this more than just a summer fling/romance and that he believed they could be something more.

Getaway appears to be a motivational song about being proactive and going after what you want because just sitting there waiting for it to happen isn’t going to help you. It’s also talking about making sure you grasp every opportunity and take control of the situation and the outcome because nothing comes easy and you have to be productive to make a difference.

What Breaks My Heart is ballad. The song is about a couple who have broken up and she’s moved on and he has to see her new found happiness and feels upset that he is no longer the source of her happiness. He is expressing that although they broke up he is finding it difficult to move on and he’s almost wishing if he could go back in time and prevent the thing that tore them apart from happening. As she walks out the door he realises the heart breaking fact that they could never be together because she never truly loved him.

The song is almost like a rebirth and although they’ve now grown up but hey have a new found sense of realising that they make their own destiny and they no longer need to feel pressurised to do things in their lives.
